What's involved

Fancy seeing Nottingham properly, rather than wandering between the same three bars?

This treasure hunt puts a pirate in charge of your afternoon. Captain Bess is recruiting, she reckons your lot might just be up to it, and she'll be sending clues, maps and directions straight to your phones as you go.

Stuck on one? She'll nudge you with a hint. Eventually.

You set off from Old Market Square and the route takes you on a proper tour of the city - through the Lace Market with its indie shops and smart bars, round the Park Estate, past the sort of details most people walk straight by. Nottingham's got Robin Hood, caves and centuries of history, and the clues make you actually look at it.

There's a stop worth making at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem too. Ancient pub, built into the rock, wonky as anything, and reputedly haunted.

It all runs through a chat on your phone, so there's nothing to download and no faff before you start.

At the end Bess hands out your score, though she's the first to admit it isn't really a competition. Take your time, stop for a drink, have a laugh.

Cracking for a hen do, a birthday group or a team that fancies fresh air instead of another meeting room.

Amazing way of exploring a city, it was so fun to work out all the clues whilst exploring and also getting history information at the same time. The tour took us in places that we will for sure have missed otherwise. Recommended!

Good fun! Got an answer wrong due to wording which upset some competitive members of our group but still had a great time!

Really good fun and, even having lived in Oxford 10 years, I saw things and places I'd never seen. The clues were stretching (even for residents!) But not to the point of despair - the right balance. One suggestion would be to have an app with notifications. Also allow joint submissions / credit. However a great way to spend my 40th. Fantastic in fact! 😁
