Right then - what's your group's song?
That's the first question with this dance class in York, because you get to pick the theme yourselves. Hen & Stag Events run it, and the list is a long one.
Taylor Swift. Beyonce - Texas Hold 'Em or Single Ladies, your call. Spice Girls. ABBA. Lady Gaga. Thriller. Grease. Dirty Dancing. Burlesque, Cheerleading, Kisstory, Line Dancing, the Can-Can, The Greatest Showman, or an era: 80s, 90s, 1920s.
Nothing there taking your fancy? Message the provider and ask - they're happy to take suggestions.
Once you've settled on it, you get 90 minutes with a professional instructor in a private venue held just for your group. No strangers watching, no queue for the mirror.
Your instructor breaks the routine down bit by bit, so it doesn't matter one jot whether you've danced before. The one who swears blind they've got two left feet is usually the one who nails the ending.
And you're performing it. All of it, together, right at the end.
Expect wobbles, laughing fits and at least one person going far too hard on the shoulder shimmy!
Then there's wine. Whoever you're celebrating - birthday girl, bride-to-be - gets handed a complimentary bottle at the end. Decent way to open a night out in York, that.

- Duration: 90 minutes, in a private venue reserved for your group.
- Let us know which theme you'd like when you book - Spice Girls, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, 80s, 90s, 1920s, Burlesque, Cheerleading, ABBA, Thriller, The Greatest Showman, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Kisstory, the Can-Can or Line Dancing. Suggestions for anything not listed are welcome.
- The bride-to-be or birthday girl receives a complimentary bottle of wine at the end.
- Dress code: clothes or fancy dress you can move in. Footwear must be worn.
- Pregnant women can't take part.
- Please don't bring your own food and drink.
- In the unlikely event that the listed venue is unavailable, the experience provider will arrange the best possible alternative and let you know promptly.

It was absolutely brilliant. Hannah the teacher was fab, she was full of energy and lovely. My only feedback would be the room was quite dark and dingy however this didn’t change how fab it was.

We booked this for a hen party for a musical theatre mad bride to be and we had a great time :) It was a shame the venue we were given was a bit small for the size of our group, but the instructor was great, responded to our song request and did a great routine for us!

Our teacher Natalie is a fun and friendly teacher and created a routine that not only was cool but was suitable for all abilities. She got the most out of the group with her diligent attention to detail. She taught in a way that was not intimidating, I would recommend this company. Natalie is also an incredible dancer when she did demonstrate it was really inspiring because who wouldn't want to bring it to the dance floor like she does!
